NB24 Norfolk Broads

  • Eastwood Whelpton Boat Dyke Road Norwich, England, NR13 6BL United Kingdom (map)

This is a first for TOG - sailing the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads. A number of members have reported taking cruisers on the Broads but this event will be with two sail boats.

We have chartered two yachts - the first being a traditional gaff-rigged Norfolk River cruiser with 6 berths but TOG will allocate four members to this yacht. The yacht design is based on the Farringdon 30 hull and was built by Eastwood Whelpton at Upton Norfolk. The yacht has a spacious, light interior, a large main cabin with two double berths and a forward cabin with two single berths. There is a head, a shower, and the galley is fitted with a two burner hob, oven and grill, and an electric fridge. Bedding will be provided by the charter company. This is a traditional gaff sloop rig with furling genoa, jib winches, and a counter-weighted mast. The engine is sited in the forepeak - for quiet cruising (Not required for TOG charters!) The yacht is 30ft overall length with a headroom of 6ft. The traditional gaff rigged yachts have a larger sail area than the Bermudan yachts and are faster boats.

South-Seas

The second yacht, Typhoon is a Bermudan rigged yacht designed in 1968 and built in the early 70’s by Olin Stevens. The yacht has a spacious interion with good headroom, two double berths and a single in the main cabin and two single berths (convertible to a double) in the forward cabin. TOG will again allocate 4 members to this yacht for the week Sailex. There is warm air heating (not required in July) a shower and a bead. Bedding will be provided by the charter company. The galley has a two burner hob, oven and grill and an electric fridge. This Bermudan mast head sloop has a winch lowered mast, fully battened mainsail, and a furling jib. Overall length 34ft with 6ft 2in headroom.

Typhoon

Both yachts will pass under Ludham and Potter Heigham bridges. There is free secure parking at the marina, gas and diesel is included in the charter fee.

The above yachts are coded for 6 or 7 guests but we will be allocating just 4 members to each boat. This ensures plenty of activity for all and more space. We this have just 8 berths to fill and there is good interest in this special event so please book asap if you are interest in taking a place. The berth fee for this 7 day Sailex will be £370.00 As of 1st November we are FULLY BOOKED on this event.
